It's a losing battle sometimes to try and keep boys from playing rough. I haven't bought my boys a lot guns and weapon like toys but I'm not opposed to letting them have them. Let's face it even if you don't give those kind of toys to your kids they will make their own.
Exhibit A:
A hanger as a bow
Tinker Toys as arrows
and my personal favorite: My shoes shoved down his shirt to hold his arrows.

It started innocently enough. The first time he was being Nephi and took his bow and arrows to find food for his family. The books on the floor are scripture stories with pictures that we read from at night and he has become obsessed. He loves to sit and look at the pictures. Now we are in Alma and the fighting has begun. He refers to the books and picks out which guy he is and then our house becomes his battle field.

We have now added my pot lids as shields and, with a minor alterations, Tinker Toy swords and Owen the Lamanite.
